Permission to view the contents of this vault was denied. We were asked to fill out a request form for a particular book and a librarian would then bring the book to us. Unfortunately, we were not familiar with 17th century books on architecture and were unable to make a decision on which book to choose.
We asked for books that described the procedures that were used to build the Hellenistic temples of Greece. Although thorough blueprints of the temples, columns, and statues were available to us, no drawings or accurate descriptions of the methods used to lift the stone into place could be found. We believe this is very unusual. Why would the great painters have refrained from capturing this most important aspect of temple construction?
